Start with the shape, not eleven names
In a 4-3-3, you need a goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and a front three. A 4-4-2 requires two forwards and wide midfield options. A 3-5-2 shifts the challenge toward three center-backs and two wingbacks. Choose a system whose open slots you understand, then use those needs to judge every draft prompt.
Fullbacks are not interchangeable with center-backs
Read each player’s listed positions and the fit shown for the destination slot. LB and RB provide the sides of a back four; LWB and RWB are wingback roles; CB is a central defender. Midfield labels also matter: DM, CM and AM describe different natural roles. Eligible secondary positions can make a player more flexible, but a famous name alone does not make every slot a good fit.
Balance the midfield and attack
Before adding another goalscorer, ask who wins the ball and who moves it forward. A narrow formation needs central cover and creation; a wide one also needs suitable flank players. Keep track of the goalkeeper slot while attractive outfield picks appear. Compare the improvement to your actual lineup rather than the difference between two headline ratings.

Players must come from your rolled context, and each pick fills an available place. You cannot freely select every player in football history or import an arbitrary lineup. That constraint is the game: adapt when your preferred option is unavailable, use rerolls thoughtfully and finish a team from the opportunities you receive.
Check whether your dream team works
The completed lineup goes into a simulated campaign. Read the tactical report for position problems, strengths and weaknesses, then compare the record with your expectations. For a deeper squad-building challenge, Manager Mode adds seven bench slots and evaluates rotation coverage alongside the starting XI.
